Fair sapphires from Sri Lanka
Ceylons Munich – Behind this are Peter Janowski & Leander Schorr – two likeable Munich residents who have turned their vision of fair sapphires into reality. The sapphires are mined in Srilanka (formerly “Ceylon”) in small-scale mines. Mining in Sri Lanka is environmentally friendly and sustainable for people and nature thanks to traditional mining without the use of machinery. The construction of the mine tunnels is made from natural materials from the region and follows proven, traditional methods, as the safety of the miners is paramount. The direct involvement of the local community is very important for the people and for social cohesion in the various mining regions.
Thanks to direct and exclusive mine access, the Fairtrade rough stones come from mines that Ceylons Munich operates together with partners and can therefore guarantee environmentally friendly mining and sustainability. Transparency is important to them, and the “mine to market” approach guarantees a traceable supply chain. No intermediate trade creates reliability and security. Knowledge of the origin, the type of further processing, possible forms of treatment and local conditions are decisive for quality and value determination. Intensive quality controls also guarantee European quality standards.
And did you know that sapphires are not only available in blue, but in a whole range of different shades? This also fits in well with Ceylon Munich’s motto: “Be colorful, be individual!”
